Surname: Nomura; Familiar name: Yoshichi; Depending on the source consulted, Yoshikuni II was born in either Osaka or Kyoto; cited as a pupil of Nakajima Yoshiume (1819-79); alternatively, as a pupil of Ichiyôtei Yoshinobu (himself a pupil of Utagawa Kuniyoshi, 1797-1861) and also of his uncle Utagawa Yoshikuni [JF: Try to confirm this?]; Kyoto address recorded as Teramachidôri Nishikikôji agaru; designed sensô-e (war prints), theatrical billboards, and stage backdrops, but is best known for his Kyoto-Osaka landscapes and cityscapes, particularly the series Keihan meisho zue (Picture views of famous places in Kyoto and Osaka; 1885).

The signature Kyô Yoshikuni means "Yoshikuni from Kyoto."
