Background

We have not located the plot for Isamashiki oi no kotobuki (Long life and an old woman's courage: 勇ましき老嫗寿).

Design

Utaemon III performs the role of a senior lady-in-waiting (identified here as rôjo or "old woman," 老女).

The poem on the left side of this print is signed Shikan (芝翫), the poetry name used by Utaemon III.
