Background

Inuyama Dôsetsu was one of the eight "dog warriors," based on Kyokutei (Takizawa) Bakin's celebrated epic yomihon novel, Nanô Satomi hakkenden ("Tale of the Eight Dogs of the House of Satomi"; serialized 1814-42).

Design

This is possibly a mitate (imaginary performance depiction. Series: Chûyû hakkenden ("Biography of Eight Loyal and Brave Dogs"); a most impressive design by Sadamasu.
